Bad movie??? It's great! I saw it an evening in tv and I was shocked by the character: Simon Magus, then Simon Templar, then Human Fly and at the end the Saint...
For curiosity I searched the old series and I found the Roger Moore episodes. I loved him. Then I searched the books and I found them on ebay in old italian editions. Wonderful!
Maybe Val Kilmer is not the Saint, but without him I never read a Charteris book. Probably other young people did the same. 
I read Tom Cruise was the first choice to play the movie. Think at this funny thing: if he was The Saint, in these days he would be at the cinema not with Mission Impossible 3 (MI 3) but with the Saint 3 (ST 3)

  My own view is that the Kilmer movie wasn't a bad movie--quite enjoyable
  in someways--but it just wasn't the Saint.

  And well spotted...the Charterisian omission in the credits was deliberate.
