It was getting them at "best of" the available prices which was the 
problem really!  Christmas is a time to be Scrooge-like, after all.

Christmas Amazon service is less than brilliant.  On Wednesday, they 
told me they had despatched an item ordered the week before, by 
standard delivery (as requested), ie second-class post for this sort 
of package.  It arrived today.  It was on Wednesday that I ordered 
the Saint books from Waterstones.  They emailed me on Thursday to say 
they'd been despatched, and they duly arrived on Saturday morning, 
second class in a substantial box.
