I tried to send this to the list once already, but I don't think it quite
worked. Here's the second try.

Actually I quite liked the flow and the pacing of the piece. It seemed nice and
light and bouncy -- much in keeping with some of the pacing Charteris himself
used.

Of course you couldn't get all the details you wanted into the piece, that's
always impossible. There is always something that gets left out that you want
to include, but just remember, only you the writer knows what you excluded. We
can only judge based on what made it to the page (or the computer screen).

All I'll say on the topic is that I'm joyous with glee that the musical version
never saw the light of day. That said, I'm sure that if Leslie were still
around and were watching the trend of Hollywood to Broadway adaptations that is
going on right now, he'd be pulling the old script out of the bottom draw of
his desk, and then we'd be talking about the Kilmer movie as one of the better
contemporary adaptations.

As for a saintly Carry On movie, I guess it be shown on a late night double
bill with the Peter Sellers version of Casino Royal. Mind you after these two
revelations, I'm almost surprised you didn't mention a Hope and Crosby Road
To... version as well.
