[Theepistle] Kindling interest

Hi all,

Of possible interest:
<http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/354940>

I note the newly-launched Apple iPad (something to do with footpad?)
will have full eBook facilities, closely linked to an Apple service
akin to iTunes. Its display is full-colour and (I think) slightly
higher resolution than at least some eBook readers. But battery life
is much less, and it doesn't have USB ports (you do everything over wireless).

What I come back to, time and again, is that - no matter the many
undeniable bells and whistles of eBook readers compared to printed
paper, a simple paperback will operate forever without recharging and
has vastly better resolution than any current eBook display. OK, in
many situations one might want a lightsource, and the sun isn't
always on tap, plus shelf space for any sizable collection of books
becomes a significant consideration. I just don't feel any urge even
to try an eBook at present.

[Disclaimer - I tend to be a "late adopter" of many new technologies,
despite a fascination with gadgets and gizmos.]

Tim
